Quick answer

What is web analytics?

Web analytics is the measurement of what people do on your website and where they came from — so that marketing spend can be judged on results rather than opinion. In practice it means three things: collecting the data correctly, attributing each lead to its source, and reporting it in a form a business owner can act on.

The first of those is where most setups fail. If phone calls are not tracked, GA4 events fire on the wrong actions, or Google Ads and Analytics disagree about what a conversion is, every report built on top is wrong in a direction nobody can see.

Why your numbers lie

Three reasons your analytics cannot be trusted

We find at least one of these in almost every account we audit.

01

Phone calls are invisible

For most Alberta service businesses the majority of enquiries are phone calls. If those calls are not tracked back to the page and the campaign that produced them, your reports systematically undervalue whichever channel drives calls — usually local search — and you end up cutting the thing that works.

02

Everything counts as a conversion

When page views, scroll depth and outbound clicks are all logged as conversions, the total looks healthy and means nothing. Google Ads then optimises bidding toward those non-events. We define conversions as enquiries and bookings, and remove the rest.

03

Nobody reads the report

A twenty-tab dashboard nobody opens is not measurement. The useful report answers three questions: how many enquiries, from where, at what cost. If it takes longer than two minutes to answer those, it is the wrong report.

What we set up

Web analytics services

Measurement that a business owner can actually use to decide where next month’s budget goes.

GA4 and Google Tag Manager setup

Built properly from the start, or rebuilt if the current setup is counting the wrong things.

Call tracking

Dynamic number insertion so phone enquiries are attributed to the page, keyword and campaign that produced them.

Conversion definition and cleanup

One clear definition of a lead, applied consistently across Analytics, Ads and your CRM so the numbers reconcile.

Search Console and ranking data

Which queries actually bring you visitors, which pages are losing impressions, and where AI overviews are taking the click.

Plain-English monthly reporting

Enquiries, sources and cost per lead on one page, with the detail underneath if you want it.

CRM and revenue attribution

Connecting leads through to booked work in LinkBuffer Cloud or your own CRM, so you measure revenue rather than form fills.

How we start

Audit, fix, report

Timeframes below are typical ranges and depend on how many systems are involved and how quickly account access comes through.

Audit what exists

We check every measurement point against reality — including placing test enquiries ourselves to see whether they are recorded correctly.

Typically week 1

Rebuild the tracking

Conversions redefined, call tracking installed, GA4 and Ads reconciled, Search Console connected.

Typically weeks 2–3, scope dependent

Report and review

A monthly report you will actually read, and a quarterly review of what the numbers say you should change.

Ongoing, monthly reporting

Analytics questions Alberta businesses ask

Why do Google Ads and Google Analytics show different numbers?

Because they count differently by design. Ads attributes a conversion to the click that caused it, including clicks from days earlier; Analytics attributes to the session where it happened, using a different attribution model. A gap is normal. A large or growing gap usually means duplicate tags, a mis-defined conversion, or consent settings dropping data — and that is worth investigating.

Do I need call tracking?

If a meaningful share of your enquiries arrive by phone — which for most Alberta trades, clinics and professional services is the majority — then yes, or you are measuring only part of your business. Without it you will consistently under-credit the channels that make the phone ring and over-credit the ones that generate form fills.

Is GA4 enough on its own?

GA4 tells you what happened on the website. It does not tell you which enquiries became customers or what they were worth. For a service business, the useful picture comes from joining GA4 to call tracking and to your CRM, so you can see cost per booked job rather than cost per form fill.

Who owns the analytics accounts?

You do. We work in your accounts, or set them up in your name with you as owner. If we part ways, the historical data stays with you — which matters, because analytics history cannot be recreated after the fact.

Can you tell me which marketing is making money?

That is the point of the exercise, and the honest answer is that we can get you close, not perfect. Multi-touch journeys, offline conversations and word of mouth will always blur attribution. What good measurement gives you is a reliable enough signal to move budget with confidence, and the ability to tell when something has genuinely changed.

Will this help with privacy compliance?

Correct measurement and privacy compliance pull in the same direction more often than people assume — both require you to know exactly what you are collecting and why. We set up consent handling so you are collecting lawfully, and we will tell you where that costs you data rather than pretending it does not.

How long before the data is useful?

Tracking can be fixed within a couple of weeks. The data becomes useful for decisions once you have enough of it — usually four to eight weeks for a business with steady enquiry volume, longer if volumes are low or seasonal. We will not build conclusions on a fortnight of data and neither should anyone else.

Do you work with businesses outside Edmonton?

Yes. We have offices in Edmonton and Calgary and work across Alberta. Analytics work is done remotely — what matters is access to your accounts, not proximity.
