Quick answer

What kind of video does a local business actually need?

Usually three, in this order: a short who-we-are film for the website homepage, a set of service explainers answering the questions customers ask before booking, and short vertical clips cut from the same shoot for social and ads.

The efficient way to get all three is one production day, shot with the edits planned in advance. Businesses that commission each video separately pay for the same crew, setup and travel three times over. We plan the deliverables before the camera comes out.

Why video sits unused

Three reasons a video never gets watched

We have seen expensive films delivered and then quietly shelved for all three of these reasons.

01

It is three minutes long

Almost nobody watches a three-minute corporate film to the end, and the people who do were already going to call you. The useful version is forty seconds and answers one question. We plan for the attention span the platform actually has.

02

It was shot in one aspect ratio

A landscape film cropped to vertical afterwards looks like a mistake, because it is one. We frame for both during the shoot so the social cuts do not look like leftovers.

03

Nothing was planned for after delivery

A video with no home does nothing. Before we shoot we agree where each cut will run — website hero, ad campaign, Google Business Profile, social — so the edit list matches the actual use.

What we produce

Video production services

Planned around distribution, not around the camera.

Brand and about-us films

The short film that sits on your homepage and tells someone who you are before they call.

Service explainers

Short videos answering the questions customers ask before booking — the same questions your FAQ pages answer in text.

Client testimonial video

Real customers on camera, filmed within the advertising rules that apply to your profession.

Short-form vertical for social

Cut for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok from the same shoot, framed vertically on the day rather than cropped later.

Ad creative

Video built specifically to run as paid media, with hooks in the first two seconds and captions burnt in.

Location and site filming

On your premises, on site, or across multiple Alberta locations — with a local crew, so travel is not a line item.

How a production runs

Plan, shoot, deliver

Timeframes below are typical ranges and depend on the number of deliverables, locations and approval rounds.

Plan the deliverables

We agree what each cut is for and where it will run, then write the shot list backwards from that.

Typically 1–2 weeks

Shoot

Usually a single day on location, framed for both landscape and vertical, with the interview questions sent to you in advance.

Typically one shoot day

Edit and deliver

First cuts for review, one round of revisions, then final files in every format and aspect ratio agreed — plus the raw footage.

Typically 2–4 weeks after the shoot

Video production questions Alberta businesses ask

How much does video production cost?

The variables that move cost most are the number of shoot days, the number of locations, and how many separate edits you need. A single-day shoot producing one main film and a set of social cuts costs far less per deliverable than three separate productions. We quote against a written deliverables list so you can see exactly what each piece adds.

How long does video production take?

Typically four to six weeks from brief to final files: a week or two of planning, the shoot day itself, then two to four weeks of editing and revisions. Rushes are possible but they usually cost more and constrain the creative, so we would rather plan properly where the deadline allows.

Do we own the footage?

Yes — final files and raw footage both. Some producers keep the raw material so that future edits have to come back through them. We hand everything over, because footage you cannot re-cut in two years is footage you half-own.

How long should our video be?

Shorter than instinct suggests. Forty to sixty seconds for a homepage film, fifteen to thirty for social, under fifteen for an ad hook. If there is genuinely more to say, it is usually several short videos rather than one long one — because people finish short videos and abandon long ones.

Can you film testimonials for a regulated profession?

Yes, and we check the rules first. Health professions in Alberta have specific advertising and testimonial restrictions set by their colleges, and what is fine for a contractor is not always fine for a clinic. We work within your regulator’s standards and will tell you when a request falls outside them.

Do you charge travel to Calgary or elsewhere in Alberta?

We have offices in Edmonton and Calgary, so neither city carries a travel charge. For locations further out we will tell you at quoting exactly what travel costs, rather than adding it afterwards.

What do we need to do on the shoot day?

Less than you fear. We send the interview questions in advance so nobody is caught cold, and we handle lighting, sound and direction. What we need from you is access to the space, the right people available for their slots, and someone who can make a decision on the day.

Will the video help our SEO?

Indirectly. Video keeps people on the page longer and gives you assets for your Google Business Profile and YouTube, both of which support local visibility. It is not a ranking lever in the way that page structure and links are, and we would not sell it to you as one.
