Straight answer

What does veterinary marketing actually involve?

For a veterinary clinic, almost all new-client demand is local and urgent. Someone searches "vet near me open now" or "emergency vet Edmonton", looks at the three map results, scans the reviews, and calls one. Veterinary marketing is the work of making sure your clinic is one of those three, that your reviews stand up to the comparison, and that the phone gets answered.

In practice that means a properly built Google Business Profile, service pages for the treatments you want more of, review generation that runs continuously, and a booking path that works on a phone.

Why it matters

Three things that cost Alberta vet clinics new clients

None of these are exotic. They are the issues we find on almost every clinic we audit.

01

You rank outside the map pack

Below the top three map results, click share falls off a cliff. Most clinics we audit have an incomplete Google Business Profile, wrong or inconsistent hours, no services listed, and no recent photos — all of which are ranking inputs.

02

Your reviews have gone stale

A clinic with 40 reviews and nothing in the last six months loses to one with 300 and a review from last week. Review recency and volume both feed local ranking, and both feed the pet owner comparing two clinics side by side.

03

Nobody answers the phone

Vet enquiries are time-sensitive. If a call rings out at 4:40pm or a form sits unread overnight, that client books somewhere else. We track what happens after the click, not just the click.

What we do

Veterinary marketing services for Edmonton and Calgary clinics

Pick the parts you need. Most clinics start with local search and reviews.

Local SEO and map ranking

Google Business Profile build-out, service and location pages, citation cleanup, and the on-page work that gets a clinic into the top three for "vet near me" searches across its catchment.

Review generation

An automated request that goes out after each visit through LinkBuffer Cloud, so review volume and recency keep climbing instead of stalling. Never gated — every client gets asked.

Website and booking

A fast clinic site that loads on a phone, states your hours and emergency policy clearly, and puts booking or calling one tap away from any page.

Google Ads

Search campaigns for the high-intent terms — emergency, spay and neuter, dental, vaccination — with negative keywords that keep you out of pet-food and adoption searches.

Content that answers pet-owner questions

The questions people search before they call: what a dental costs, when a limp needs a vet, what to do about a cat that stops eating. These are what AI Overviews and People Also Ask pull from.

Reporting you can act on

Calls, form fills and booked appointments by source, not impressions. One page, monthly, with what we changed and what it did.

How it runs

From audit to booked appointments

Typical ranges — your clinic may move faster or slower depending on how much groundwork exists.

Audit and plan

We review your Google Business Profile, rankings across your catchment, reviews, site speed and booking path, then sequence the work by what will move new-client volume soonest.

Week 1

Build and fix

Profile rebuild, service pages, site fixes, review automation switched on, tracking installed so every call and form is attributed.

Weeks 2–6

Rank, measure, adjust

Local rankings usually start moving in the first two to three months, with meaningful new-client change more often in the three to six month range. We report monthly and adjust.

People also ask

Veterinary marketing questions Alberta clinics ask

How do I get my vet clinic in the Google map pack?

Complete and verify your Google Business Profile, list every service, keep hours accurate including holidays, add photos regularly, and build review volume and recency. Then make sure your website has a page for each main service with your city named. Proximity to the searcher matters too, which is why a clinic can rank first in its own neighbourhood and nowhere three suburbs over.

How many Google reviews does a veterinary clinic need?

There is no threshold that switches ranking on. What matters is being competitive with the clinics you appear alongside, and having recent reviews. If the three clinics ranking above you have 200 to 400 reviews with several from the past month, that is the bar. A steady automated request after each visit is what keeps you there.

Is Google Ads worth it for a veterinary clinic?

It can be, particularly for emergency and high-value services like dental or surgery, and for a new clinic that has no ranking yet. It is less useful if you are already in the map pack for your core terms and your book is full. We would tell you which of those you are in before recommending spend.

What rules apply to veterinary advertising in Alberta?

The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association sets professional conduct and advertising standards for its registrants, including rules on claims, comparisons and testimonials. We write copy to sit inside those standards and we will flag anything that looks close to the line, but the final compliance call rests with your registered veterinarians.

How long before veterinary marketing shows results?

Local rankings typically start shifting within two to three months of the profile and on-page work being done. New-client volume changes more often in the three to six month range. Google Ads can produce calls in the first week, which is why some clinics run ads while the organic work takes hold.

Should my clinic be on social media?

Social is good for retaining existing clients and for staff and community visibility. It is rarely where new clients come from — that is search. If your budget is limited, fix local search and reviews first, then add social.

Do you work with clinics outside Edmonton and Calgary?

Yes. We work with businesses across Alberta from our Edmonton and Calgary offices, and the local search work is the same regardless of the town. Smaller markets are often easier to rank in.

Can you help if we already have a marketing agency?

We can run an audit and tell you what we would do differently, and you can take that to your current agency or to us. We would rather give you a straight assessment than talk you into switching.
