Tree Service & Arborist Marketing — Alberta

The Morning After A Windstorm, Whoever Answers First Gets The Week.

Tree work has two demand curves: planned pruning that people schedule, and emergency removals that arrive in a burst after every storm. The second kind pays better, decides faster, and goes almost entirely to whoever picks up.

Where Tree Service Marketing Goes Wrong

Three Things We Find At Almost Every Company

None of these are about your climbing. All three cost jobs in the weeks that matter most.

01

Nothing Built For Emergency Searches

"Emergency tree removal Edmonton" and "tree fell on my house" are different searches from "tree pruning". They happen at 6am after a storm, on a phone, from someone who will call the first credible number. Most companies have no page addressing that moment at all.

02

Credentials Buried Or Missing

Homeowners hiring someone to drop a large limb near their roof want to see certification and insurance before they call. That information is often on an inside page nobody reaches, or absent entirely, and it is the single biggest hesitation in this trade.

03

The Phone Goes To Voicemail During Storm Week

You are in a bucket truck, which is exactly when the calls come. Every unanswered call in that window is a job that went to a competitor, and storm weeks are a disproportionate share of the year.

We will show you where you rank for both the planned work and the emergency searches, how your profile compares with the companies above you, what happens to a call when you are up a tree, and what to fix before the next windstorm.

  • Whether your certification and insurance are visible before the call

The Work

What A Month Actually Looks Like

Six things that happen every month, with the emergency path built first.

A Page For The Emergency

Written for someone standing in their yard at 6am looking at a split trunk: what to do right now, what it costs roughly, how fast you can be there, and a number that dials with one tap. This page earns more per visit than anything else on the site.

Credentials Where They Are Seen

Certification, liability insurance and WCB coverage stated plainly near the top rather than buried on an about page. In a trade where the risk is obvious, this is what converts a visitor into a caller.

A Page Per Service

Removal, pruning, stump grinding, storm cleanup, commercial and acreage work — one page each, written for how people search rather than how arborists describe the work.

Calls That Reach You In The Bucket

Routing with an automatic text back within seconds so a lead is held while you finish the job you are on, every call recorded, and anything unanswered flagged. This alone usually pays for the programme during a single storm week.

Google Business Profile

Categories, service areas set to the ground you really cover, and photos of real jobs — big removals near buildings, the crane work, the clean site afterwards. Most emergency calls start here, not on your website.

Reviews, As A Habit

A request sent when the site is cleared and the customer is standing there relieved. Every review answered. Review count and recency move the map pack faster than anything else in this trade.

How We Start

The First Ninety Days

The emergency path first, because it can pay for itself before the rankings move.

Measure Before Touching Anything

Where you rank for planned and emergency searches, your profile scored against the companies above you, and your phone path tested from outside during working hours. Yours to keep either way.

Days 1–7

Fix The Phone And The Profile

Call routing and text-back live, emergency page published, credentials made visible, profile rebuilt and review requests automated. Most of the early return comes from this fortnight.

Days 8–35

Build For The Planned Work

Service pages written properly, reviews accumulating, monthly reporting on calls and quoted jobs. Map pack movement often shows by week six; organic is a three month question.

Common Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Most of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers

Good, and that will not change. What referrals cannot do is surge when a storm hits — the people whose tree came down last night do not have your number. An emergency page and a phone that gets answered captures demand that currently goes elsewhere entirely.

How long before I see something

The call-handling and emergency-page work can start returning within weeks because neither depends on a ranking change. Google Business Profile and reviews usually move in four to six weeks. Organic rankings are a three month question.

When should we start

Late winter or early spring, so the pages are indexed and the phone path is fixed before storm season. Starting in July means the infrastructure arrives after the demand did.

Is it worth advertising for emergency work

Often yes, because the jobs are high value and the intent is immediate. It only works if the phone gets answered — paying for a click that reaches voicemail is the most expensive thing in this trade. We fix the phone before we suggest spending.

What does it cost

It depends on your service area and how much competition sits in it. The proposal comes back with scope, timeline and a number so you can compare it properly against anyone else you are talking to.

Do you lock me into a contract

No. You own the site, the profile, the photos and the customer data, and you can take all of it with you.

The platform behind the work

Where Tree Work Enquiries Vanish

Demand arrives in bursts after weather and disappears in between. What you do in the quiet weeks decides how the busy ones go.

01

The Storm Week Flood

After a windstorm every homeowner calls at once. The firm that answers first books the week.

02

The Quote That Went Cold

Removals are considered purchases. One quote and silence loses to a second polite follow-up.

03

The Customer With Other Trees

A property with one hazardous tree usually has more. Nobody goes back to ask.

04

The Credentials Never Shown

Insurance and certification decide these jobs, and they need to be visible before the call, not during it.

Plan your numbers

What Are Your Slow Replies Actually Costing?

Pick your industry, set your budget, and put in your own numbers. This runs on published Canadian ad costs and industry conversion benchmarks — the sources are listed underneath.

Planning estimate only · built from published benchmarks, not a forecast of your results

What you put into paid search in a month. Leave it where it is if you are only planning.

Your number, not ours. First job, first course of treatment, or lifetime value — whichever you actually manage against.

Of the people who enquire, how many buy. Set this to your own number.

Be honest about evenings and weekends. The 37% default is the share of 2,241 companies that managed it in the Harvard Business Review audit.

The gap, per month

How this is calculated. Clicks = budget ÷ cost per click. Cost per click is the midpoint of Google’s own low and high top-of-page bid estimates for that industry in Canada. Enquiries = clicks × the median Google Ads search conversion rate for that category in the WordStream 2026 benchmark study (13,474 campaigns, April 2025 – March 2026). Enquiries you do not answer quickly are modelled as one seventh as likely to convert, from the Harvard Business Review audit of 2,241 companies, which found firms replying within an hour were roughly seven times likelier to qualify a lead.

Where to be sceptical. That seven-times figure describes a salesperson picking up the phone. An automated first reply is not the same thing, so treat the right-hand column as the size of the opportunity, not a promise. Benchmarks are medians across many advertisers; your own account will differ. Nothing here is a quote.
