Quick answer

What is mobile marketing?

Mobile marketing is everything that reaches a customer on their phone — SMS, mobile-optimised web and ads, click-to-call, and automated messaging like missed-call text-back. For a local service business it is less a separate channel than a lens applied to all the others.

The reason it deserves its own attention is response rate. A text message is typically read within minutes, where an email may sit unopened for days. That makes SMS the right tool for time-sensitive things — appointment reminders, a missed call, a quote that is about to expire — and the wrong tool for a newsletter.

Where mobile leads are lost

Three ways Alberta businesses lose mobile customers

Each of these is silent — nothing shows up in a report to tell you it happened.

01

The missed call is never followed up

When a local service business misses a call, most callers do not leave a voicemail — they call the next business on the list. An automatic text sent within seconds of a missed call recovers a share of those people who would otherwise have simply gone elsewhere.

02

The landing page was designed on a desktop

A form that needs pinch-zoom, a phone number that is not tappable, a hero image that pushes the enquiry button below three scrolls — all invisible to whoever approved the design on a large monitor. We test on real devices.

03

SMS is used like email

Texting a customer a monthly newsletter is the fastest way to get opted out of. SMS earns its access by being useful and occasional: the reminder, the confirmation, the response to a missed call. We set the rules before we set up the campaigns.

What we set up

Mobile marketing services

Practical automations, not another channel to feed.

Missed-call text-back

An automatic text within seconds of a missed call, so the caller gets a response before they dial your competitor.

SMS campaigns and reminders

Appointment reminders, confirmations and time-sensitive offers — the messages people genuinely want to receive.

Mobile-first landing pages

Designed at phone width first, with the form and the call button where a thumb can reach them.

Two-way conversational messaging

A single inbox for SMS, web chat and social messages so your front desk is not switching between five apps.

Consent and CASL compliance

Opt-in capture, records and opt-out handling set up correctly from the start.

Tracking and reporting

Which messages produced replies, bookings and revenue — reported alongside your other channels, not separately.

Mobile marketing questions Alberta businesses ask

What is missed-call text-back?

An automation that sends a text message to anyone whose call you did not answer, usually within seconds — something along the lines of “Sorry we missed you, how can we help?”. It works because most people who call a local business and get no answer do not leave voicemail; they call the next result. A text arriving immediately gives them a reason to stay with you, and turns a lost call into a conversation your team can pick up when free.

Do Canadian anti-spam rules apply to SMS?

Yes. CASL covers text messages as well as email, which means you need provable consent, clear identification of your business, and a working opt-out in every message. We set consent capture and record-keeping up correctly, but confirm your specific obligations with your own advisor — we are not lawyers.

How often can we text customers?

Rarely, and only with a reason. Transactional messages — reminders, confirmations, responses — can be frequent because people want them. Promotional texts should be occasional; more than about one or two a month and opt-out rates climb quickly. SMS access is easy to lose and hard to rebuild.

Do we need a separate phone number for SMS?

Usually yes, or a number that can be text-enabled. Many Alberta businesses run a landline that cannot receive texts, which means missed-call text-back needs a routed number in front of it. We work out what your current setup supports before quoting.

Is SMS better than email?

For anything time-sensitive, yes — texts are read almost immediately where email may wait days. For anything long, informative, or regular, email is better and cheaper. Most of our clients run both, with a clear rule about which messages go where. Using them interchangeably is how businesses get opted out of both.

What does mobile-first design actually change?

Where the enquiry button sits, how many form fields you can reasonably ask for, whether the phone number is a tap-to-call link, and how heavy the page is on a patchy connection. These sound minor and are collectively the difference between a page that converts on mobile and one that does not. Most sites are designed on a desktop and only checked on a phone afterwards.

Does this work with our existing booking system?

Often, yes — it depends on whether your system exposes an API or webhooks. We check before quoting rather than discovering a closed system mid-build. Where a direct integration is not possible we will tell you what the workaround costs in manual steps so you can decide whether it is worth it.

Do you work with businesses outside Edmonton?

Yes. We have offices in Edmonton and Calgary and work across Alberta, including St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Leduc, Red Deer, Airdrie and Camrose.
